Style and sustainability meet in Castlethorpe Homes’ latest development, a collection of four detached farmhouse properties in keeping with the rural aesthetic of the area. Fresh air and natural light provided by VELUX roof windows are fundamental to the design.

Blending traditional looks with modern methods

Whilst the site already had outline planning, the original approved designs didn’t blend fully with the location. Castlethorpe Homes took on the site and wanted to create sustainable yet traditionally built houses that suited their semi-rural location and were in keeping with the surrounding homes. However, they also needed to make the inside light and bright, airy, and modern, to appeal to the market.

Classic vibes that keep cool as temperatures rise

Roof windows in bedrooms and hallways ensure natural light from above, making the spaces bright and appealing without compromising on the traditional aesthetic of the exterior. When opened, the ventilation provided by the roof windows prevents overheating in summer, bringing in healthy fresh air to circulate throughout the home.

The lighter side of family life

Working together in the early design stage, the collaboration between Castlethorpe Homes and VELUX maximized several spaces including increasing the ceiling height in some main bedrooms and adding roof windows to create a statement in those rooms. The rooms enhanced with roof windows are light and bright, with some achieving a 60% increase in the amount of light compared with the previous design proposals. This has resulted in healthier spaces that are both impressive to look at and deliver an enhanced sense of wellbeing for the families that will live in them.

Chris Warner, founder and managing director of Castlethorpe Homes, said: “The involvement from VELUX has been superb, they have taken the time to understand our business and the design and specification goals we want to create in our new homes. The use of VELUX products has elevated our homes, made them different and added value. The additional design input and the VELUX roof windows at our recent projects have ensured that our homes buyers will see something new and different, and it has created a point of differentiation for us and made our new homes more saleable in the current market where you need to stand out.”
